Webdevelopment Internship

The applicant must be experienced at website oversight, content and information management, and be able to communicate effectively with staff. The internship start date, length of internship, and amount of hours per week are flexible, depending on the applicant’s schedule. The intern will be provided personalized supervision and guidance, and will work closely with the Executive Director.

    Responsibilities may entail any or all of the following:

  • update, edit, and develop the www.ohny.org website
  • manage social media and website traffic
  • evaluate current procedures and make recommendations
  • potentially assist with a future website developments
  • other duties as requested by the Executive Director and Program Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • college-level and graduate students
  • demonstrated experience with web editing, content management systems, social media,
    social networks, and online communities, including blogging. Work examples required.
  • must be tech savvy, and demonstrate a genuine passion for the world of social media and
    online communication
  • exceptional writing and editing skills. Writing samples required.
  • strong multitasking skills and ability to prioritize, plus ability to adapt to shifting priorities
    on the fly
  • a detail-oriented nature, strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
    (written and verbal)
  • positive attitude and solid work ethic
  • demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal
    departments and external partners
  • proficiency with basic computer (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.), web and social media
    platforms, (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr, Youtube, Vimeo, and
    WordPress) as well as graphic design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • comfortable working with Macs
  • passion for architecture, design, New York City, and the nonprofit world a plus

Social Media Internship

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Social Media Intern will assist with OHNY's social media accounts and content, contributing to the development and implementation of OHNY's overall social media strategy, and leveraging both existing and new social media tools to further organizational goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate should be fully knowledgeable and actively participating in a wide variety of social media activities such as blogging, community development and management, social bookmarking, commenting, etc. and is well-connected with the broader social media world. Social media platforms currently in use at OHNY include (but are not limited to): Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr, Youtube, Vimeo, and WordPress.

  • work with OHNY staff to implement effective strategies for all existing OHNY social media
    tools, as well as the development/use of new tools, as they relate to a broad range of
    project areas, including: tours, special events, OHNY Weekend, new series, etc.
  • create, maintain, and manage posting/maintenance schedule for all social media
  • create and edit copy and content for all platforms
  • work directly with OHNY's graphic designer(s) and web master when necessary
  • communicate directly with OHNY fans, followers, and users, on a daily basis in a
    customer service- oriented capacity
  • coordinate volunteers via social networks
  • monitor trends in social media tools and applications, and appropriately apply that
    knowledge as it relates to OHNY projects and priorities
  • experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social media
  • educate managers in other departments and other stakeholders when necessary
  • ensure all social media activity is aligned with established brand standards and OHNY
    style guidelines
  • monitor and analyze effectiveness of social media campaigns

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • facilitate resolution of issues through social networks, as they are brought to your
    attention
  • cultivate and maintain relationships both internally and externally to foster partnerships,
    co-promotional relationships, sharing of information, and best practice
  • research and explore new social media tools and products as they develop. Remain
    current and up-to-date on the global social media landscape

Program Internship

Working at openhousenewyork is a great opportunity to acquire wide-ranging experience working with a small, creative team in a pleasant, supportive working environment. The Program Intern will be responsible for working with staff members on a wide variety of projects including:

  • researching and writing proposals to foundations, corporations and individuals
  • assisting in program development and special events including the Annual OHNY Weekend
  • maintaining OHNY’s database
  • administrative duties

Qualifications: Ideally, the intern should possess:

  • excellent attention to detail
  • interest in architecture, not-for-profit arts management, urban planning, NYC history
  • ability to handle a variety of administrative responsibilities, and to work independently and creatively
  • excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • experience writing funding proposals/researching funders
  • experience in print & electronic research
  • computer proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • additional helpful skills: WordPress, Photoshop and other graphic design related software

Dates: unpaid internship available immediately

Hours: approximately 16 hours/2 days
