What are the benefits?

What is the commitment?

• Attend one of our training sessions before OHNY Weekend and pick up your OHNY Volunteer Button, T-Shirt, and assignment sheet
• One four-hour shift on either Saturday or Sunday during OHNY Weekend
• Meet and greet visitors, manage lines, ask visitors to sign up for our mailing list
• Work with our Sponsors (the site owners and managers) to ensure that visitors are welcomed and follow any necessary building requirements

What happens at the OHNY Weekend Training Sessions?

• Receive your volunteer assignment and learn about what is expected of you as an OHNY Weekend Volunteer
• Hear more about openhousenewyork and why our volunteers make OHNY Weekend a success
• Pick up the OHNY Volunteer Button that identifies you as an official OHNY Volunteer and grants you front-of-the-line access to our non-reservation sites
• Meet other volunteers and OHNY staff

Do I get to pick my site?

We do everything possible to match all volunteers to sites that fit their interests and accessibility needs, and with 350 sites and programs, this is not always possible. However, we do honor requests to match shifts with other volunteers, and your short shift will allow you plenty of time to visit many other sites during the Weekend.

Can I volunteer in other ways?

Yes! If you are a have volunteered for OHNY Weekend before and would like to take on more responsibility or be more involved, we need District Coordinators to supervise volunteers and troubleshoot at our sites and programs during OHNY Weekend. Each district includes about 10-12 sites, and the commitment is for the duration of OHNY Weekend, rather than a four-hour shift.
