  Three More Weeks!
Fall is in the air and the 4th Annual openhousenewyork Weekend, October 7 & 8, is right around the corner. America's largest architecture and design celebration is bigger and better than ever and you can view some of the highlights below. With over 180 sites and 120 programs – all free of charge – there's plenty to do in all five boroughs. Get your friends and family together to explore NYC like you've never seen it before!

  Flowers on Towers
Spend the day enjoying the plentiful greenery all over NYC by visiting these top "green" sites. Head over to the Upper West Side's Calhoun School, and take a tour with FXFOWLE ARCHITECTS to learn about one of NYC's first eco-friendly roofs. Travel to Tribeca's "green" residential tower, The Solaire, where balmori associates will discuss their green roof design.

Take a penthouse tour of Cook + Fox Architects "green" studio and planted roof. Visit The High Line Viewing, and learn how this disused, elevated rail viaducts conversion to public open space. Don't forget to stop at mid-town's Rockefeller Center Rooftop Garden, and experience the rare opportunity to see this famed garden.

  Neighborhood Spotlight: Flushing, Queens
Explore all the architectural and cultural diversity that this neighborhood has to offer! Head over to the Queens Museum of Art to view their famed New York City Panorama, a giant scale model of all the five boroughs. Check out the curving, glass curtain wall façade of the Flushing Library, NYC's largest library branch.

Travel to the Hindu Temple Society of North America to stroll around the temple's elaborately carved shrine of black granite stone imported from India. Visit NY state's oldest house of worship, the wood frame, Old Quaker Meeting House. Relax at the Voelker Orth Museum, Bird Sanctuary and Victorian Garden, and learn fascinating facts about the birds, bees and Victorian structure.

  Take a Hike
Step right up, for the greatest show along the Midway! Take a stroll along Coney Island's show biz past featuring landmark sites and exteriors with Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment. In its heyday, the resort was more than just rides and arcades: it was a training ground for a generation of legendary performers.

Stroll around with the Center for Urban Pedagogy as they discover a century of commerce on Fulton Street, Brooklyn's most vibrant shopping district. The tour will visit an Art Deco department store, a 3,000-seat historic movie palace, and the home of a Grammy-winning gospel choir. Explore Battery Park City's ground-breaking sustainable buildings Tribeca Green, The Solaire, and The Verdesian on GreenHomeNYC's tour "Changing Views on High Performance Buildings."

  Hey, Kids! Take a Hike
How do historic places become new city spaces? "From Working Seaport to Living City," a group scavenger hunt for kids 6 to 9, focuses on the history of the South Street Seaport and its transition into a modern entertainment and residential neighborhood. Afterwards, trek to the Upper West Side to visit the American Museum of Natural History site for a blast to the past. Learn what the area was like 100 years ago with Landmark West!'s "Farmhouses to Townhouses" and "Horse Trails to Subway Rails," kids 7 to 10.
