DONATE TODAY!

Dear Friend of openhousenewyork,

You still have three more weeks to add openhousenewyork to your year end giving plan!

The impact of architecture, design and planning initiatives on our communities and our lives increases each year. The need to understand how the built environment affects where we live, work and play is more critical than ever. openhousenewyork (OHNY) addresses this need through innovative education programs and free access to New York City's most distinctive sites.

OHNY educates the public about the city's architecture and design and integrates the historical, cultural and social relevance of NYC's special places and spaces. Your support enables openhousenewyork to develop free of charge education programs which become catalysts for discussion and change. OHNY programs make all of us stop and think about our built environment - the public and private spaces we inhabit each day.

A donation of $75 will open the door to a unique OHNY site. $150 will build an opendialogue program or tour with an architect, designer or planner. Giving $250 will help expand OHNY Kids! youth education programs into NYC schools to help students design and build a better tomorrow.

OHNY makes every dollar count. Look what your support has enabled in just five years:

  • 1.5 million OHNY Weekend and OHNY Kids! event guides distributed free of charge
350,000 visitors from around the world attending OHNY Weekend
  • 2,000 volunteers giving 10,000 hours of
    volunteer time
  • 1,000 distinctive sites in all five boroughs made accessible to the public
  • 350 free talks, tours, performances, and
    family workshops
  • 5 annual OHNY Weekends free of charge to all
  • launch of year-round programs, including design workshops in underserved communities

OHNY's education programs cannot remain free to the public without your support. Your donation will open doors to architectural and design knowledge for New Yorkers and visitors to truly comprehend and care about how our built environment affects our lives—one community, one neighborhood, one person at a time.

Please make a financial contribution today and support openhousenewyork's mission and programs by donating online or mailing a check to OHNY. Together we can truly make a difference in how the public interacts with, understands, and influences New York's extraordinary architecture and design.

Sincerely,

P. Joy Villalino
executive director
Scott Lauer
founder and board president

5th Annual OHNY Weekend Preview:
Roosevelt Island

Experience The Encampment
The Encampment is a large-scale public participatory art installation that incorporates one hundred, 19th century expeditionary tents erected on Roosevelt Island's Southpoint. These illuminated tents will be glowing masses of geometric forms visible on both sides of the East River and open for site visits between the hours of 7:00 pm and 1:00 am.

Each tent contains an installation that recounts individual lost narratives of Roosevelt Island, the site of a small pox hospital, lunatic asylum, workhouse, and penitentiary from 1828-1925.

Explore this unique site where music, image and ceremony converge with artist Thom Sokoloski and choreographer Jenny-Anne McCowan.

For volunteer opportunities with The Encampment, contact EncampmentCollaborators@gmail.com
