DSNY Staten Island Transfer Station
9:30 am

This tour lets participants see the operations of the Staten Island Transfer Station (SITS), where the borough's household waste is transfered from collection trucks to rail cars and then transported out of the city. It's a rare opportunity to observe the inside workings of one of New York's most important, if under appreciated, municipal facilities.

Sunday Tour Info: This tour will last approximately 2.5 hrs; the bus will depart from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in St. George for SITS at 9:30.

Access Notes: All participants must sign a waiver before boarding the DSNY bus.

Reservations for this tour are now sold out. Interested in exploring the city's waste management infrastructure? You may also enjoy the Sims Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility, which requires no reservations! Click on the site’s name to check out its Open Access listing.
