Gowanus Canal Conservancy Salt Lot
11:00 am
12:30 pm
Gowanus Canal Conservancy and NYC Dept of Sanitation, 2017

The Salt Lot, shared with the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY), is home to the Gowanus Canal Conservancy's (GCC's) compost facility, native plant nursery, and the base of operations for its education and volunteer programming. Since 2011, the GCC has hosted monthly public volunteer events ranging from building wildlife habitat, installing native plants, and composting. Uniquely situated on the banks of the Canal, the Salt Lot serves as a multi-use site for industry through DSNY salt operations and community engagement through GCC programming, and a future site for a sewage retention tank to address Combined Sewer Overflows. GCC will provide tours of the site during the OHNY weekend.

Sunday Tour Info: Tours with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy will last approximately 1 hr.

Access Notes: Hard-soled, closed-toed shoes required. The tours are all outdoors and are rain or shine; please dress appropriately (hat, sunscreen, layers as needed).
